Energy Systems & Design has been producing micro-hydroelectric components since 1980.  We make equipment that converts the energy in moving water into electricity.  We offer a wide array of products and services to the renewable energy (RE) marketplace and international installation services.



The Centre for Civil Society

The Centre for Civil Society was established in the Faculty of Community and Development Disciplines in July 2001. It began with a staff of one but has rapidly expanded and now has a staff of 19. The Centre has a wide range of thriving local, national and international linkages with key organisations and individuals in and concerned with civil society.

The Society for the Preservation of Old Mills is an international organization which is dedicated by its constitution to: "promote interest in old mills and other Americana now quickly passing from the present scene. The Climate Change Adaptation in Africa Research and Capacity Development Programme (CCAA) will support African countries in their efforts to adapt to the impacts of climate change.  It will be a programme run and executed in Africa by Africans and, to the extent possible, involving the whole of Africa

Sustainable Development Partnerships

The sustainable development partnership  is a  U.S. Government's efforts to help countries create and implement their own development strategies in areas that include:

  • Poverty reduction;
  • Universal primary education;
  • Access to clean water and sanitation services;
  • Access to energy services;
  • Reducing the spread of infectious diseases;
  • Reducing hunger and promoting agricultural and rural development
  • Conservation and environmental stewardship; and
  • Protecting marine and freshwater resources.



The Global Network on Energy for Sustainable Development (GNESD) is a UNEP facilitated knowledge network of developing world Centers of Excellence and network partners. The main objective of GNESD is to work for reaching the Millennium Development Goals (MDG). The introductory flyer on GNESD briefly outlines the thematic areas of its activities, the way GNESD works and the future plans. http://www.gnesd.org/


Equator Knowledge Zone - the Equator Initiative's interactive, map-based best practice database.

This online tool provides users with information and resources on innovative community projects working at the interface of biodiversity and poverty reduction around the world. Equator Knowledge Zone allows searchable access to the complete network of nominations for UNDP's Equator Prize and highlights the remarkable work being undertaken by communities to reduce poverty through the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. Equator Knowledge Zone will gradually provide full access to all Equator Prize best practices, from over 80 nations and virtually all global ecosystem types. Final roll-out of the fully populated database is expected in early 2005. In the meantime, we invite users to explore the tool as it expands its reach.
